Description
Karnatak Cancer Therapy & Research Institute (KCTRI)
Since cancer patients from North Karnataka had to travel either to Bombay or madras for treatment in those days, many avoided therapy due to Social taboo, distance, cost, accommodation, and language issues. Keeping this in mind, Dr. R.B. Patil wanted to make cancer treatment acceptable, accessible, and affordable. With this intent, a cancer hospital was planned in Navanagar, Hubbali and the foundation stone was laid by then Chief Minister of Karnataka Shree Devaraj Urs.
Karnatak Cancer Therapy and Research Institute Hubballi- a comprehensive cancer care center was established in 1977 and was inaugurated by then-Vice-President of India Shree B.D Jatti. The institute included a Cobalt Radiotherapy unit, well-equipped OT, Pathology and chemotherapy section, and chatra and Annadana. The goal was to provide affordable treatment, free food, and accommodation for the patients.
As per institute statistics, more than one lakh new patients have been treated in KCTRI since its inception. To provide advanced technological investigations like CT, MRI, and Nuclear scans for the people of the north Karnataka region, he established an NMR scan center in Hubballi.
