Our Story
Pernambut town, situated in Vellore district at 50 km from Vellore, is one of the main centers of leather processing. There are 36 tanneries presently operating in this tannery cluster. Total production capacity of all tanneries in this cluster is about 60 tonnes of raw matrail per day. This cluster mainly processes vegetable tanned sole leather. All tanneries in this cluster promoted a company to establish and manage the liquid and solid wastes, namely, TALCO Pernambut Tannery Effluent Treatment Company Limited (PERTEC). This company originally conceived two CETPs for the then operating and proposed tanneries.
One of the earliest CETPs to be commissioned in the state, the PERTEC CETP was commissioned in the year 1995.
