The Pune International Marathon, established in 1983, is India's first international marathon, attracting over 40,000 participants yearly from 35 countries. With its roots in Deccan Gymkhana's early 20th-century events, PIM has grown into a major sporting event, hosting renowned athletes like Rajiv Gandhi, Milkha Singh, and PT Usha. The marathon champions social causes and has contributed significantly to sports development, including the 2010 Asian Marathon Championship. It has also played a pivotal role in creating Pune's sports infrastructure.
