The Jharsuguda Municipality was constituted as per order No. 403(M) / dated 17-08-1885 of Ex. Madras Presidency. It came under the Administrative control of Odisha government vide Notification No. 3003/ I & O, dated 16-04-1957. The General Election to the present Council was held on 19-09-2008 in accordance with the notification No. 3720/SEC, dt. 11-08-2008 of the State Election Commission, Odisha, Bhubaneswar.
